Last Breath Review
The current release is based on a true story that was written by Abyss (and/or Underwater Aliens), starring Oscar nominee Woody Harrelson and Shang Chi himself, Simu Liu. Fin coaling is part of the work that deep-sea workers have to do in long shifts to repair some oil pipelines.
While traveling by boat to the work site we learn that they have to maintain pressure for a period of time and then release the pressure while coming up, while they spend their free time underwater in a cylindrical tube with a cot on it.
And although there’s a storm raging above, the deep-sea team has begun their work, but because of the push and pull of the currents, Cole’s tether is broken, leaving him with only a few minutes of air, and Liu and Harrelson are forced to wait in a precarious location until the ship above, whose electronic dampers have malfunctioned, returns for proper rescue.
What does appear to be true is Cole’s survival, and viewers are waiting to see if he will be able to recover, as he was cut off from oxygen for quite some time.
Some of the scenes at the end of the film involving the real players are reenacted (and a simple internet search will get you the “I can’t believe it” conclusion), What remains is an interesting, well-written story that doesn’t let melodrama or false bravado get in the way of viewers enjoying watching movies and watching honorable people do the right thing despite incredible odds.
